Batman Clobbers Superman in Collectibles Battle of the Century – Detective Comics #27 in CGC 8.0 Condition Sets Comic Book Sales Record of $1,075,500

Dallas – What a week for comic books! First a copy of Action Comics #1 (the first appearance of Superman) sold privately for $1,000,000. Now comes news out of Dallas that Heritage Auction Galleries has sold a copy of Detective Comics #27 (the first appearance of Batman) for $1,075,500.

Published in 1939, it is very rare for a copy in this condition to survive for so long. It was purchased by (I’m just going to call him a far sighted genius, as he or she has chosen to remain anonymous) more than 40 years ago and carefully stored for all this time.

Dying to read the first edition and see what happens? You can easily find Who knows, maybe someone will find an original copy in their attic after reading this and it will pop up there too! It could happen. The same thing happened with a rare Nintendo cartridge (See our post about it here) just last week!
