Tales of Suspense #59 Featuring the First Solo Captain America Story since the 1950′s
OK – You’ve fallen out of a drone plane into the North Atlantic Ocean where it is so cold you catch a mild case of hypothermia and spend the next couple decades frozen in a block of ice. What’s one of the first things you do when you wake up?? Well, if you go by the name of Steve Rogers you would probably do a little house sitting for The Avengers, look through some old photo albums and get attacked by a bunch of thugs after your butler rats you out – exactly what Captain America does which features the first solo appearance of the Stars and Stripes character.
As many comic collectors know, there is a Captain America movie titled “The First Avenger: Captain America” scheduled to come out in July of 2011. It is apparently in pre-production at the moment, but it is sure to garner lots of attention if previous Marvel comics based movies are any guide. As most Captain America fans are aware, the story is based on Steve Rogers, a young man who is declared as being “unfit” by the US Military during World War II. He is so desperate to serve his country, he volunteers for a secret government project that basically turns him into a super soldier – and the rest is history! It is bound to be a little better than the 1944 version of him below – especially now that Disney will be involved!

Previously Unknown $10,000 Life Insurance Policy Belonging to President James A. Garfield Discovered by Owner of This Site
A previously unknown or long forgotten $10,000 life insurance policy belonging to assassinated President James Abram Garfield has been discovered in a scrapbook belonging to the ancestors of the very owner of this website! What is more interesting is the policy was issued on May 18th, 1881, just 45 days before President Garfield would be shot by Charles J. Guiteau – a shot which would claim Garfield’s life just over two months later on September 19th. Garfield was the 20th President of the United States – and had the second shortest tenure at 199 days. Issued by The Equitable Life Assurance Society with offices at 120 Broadway, it had payments of $235.50 due in November and May (with a $1 fee for writing the policy).
Upon his death, the policy was cashed in as witnessed by his widows signature on the back – also a witness to his death. Previously only a $25,000 policy was known of.
